What is Legislative Decree 102/2014 and what does it say?
First, whom is Legislative Decree 102/2014 talking to? The obligation to execute an energy analysis concerns large companies and energy-intensive ones. These are the businesses that are obliged to carry out an in-house energy audit not later than December 5th 2015.
As a matter of fact, the decree wants to define a set of measures for the promotion and improvement of energy efficiency, aimed at achieving, by the year 2020, the national goal of energy saving consisting of a reduction of 20 million tons of oil equivalent of primary energy consumption (corresponding to 15.5 million tons of oil equivalent of final energy), counted starting from 2010, in conformity with the National Energy Strategy.
Therefore, Legislative Decree 102/2014 aims at improving the energy efficiency level of the entire industrial sector, as to make it more sustainable in the future. In order to do so, it is necessary to act on the main players, meaning companies that consume the most energy.
