ESA EWDB Drive Onboard Motor

ESA EWDB on-board motor drive combines compact dimensions, energy efficiency and communication. In this article we analyze its features and advantages to promote smart manufacturing.

EWDB: sustainability and communication

With integrated drive, the EWDB motor stands out for its compact design which allows you to save space and optimize on-board machine wiring. Powered at low voltage (from 24 to 60 Vdc), it simplifies the structure of the axis connections with simple connectors. Furthermore, it is suitable for various on-machine applications thanks to its dynamic performance and the flexibility of its mechatronic functions.

Among its main advantages, EWDB promotes sustainability within the plant, a fundamental characteristic for 5.0-ready production. In fact, since it is a brushless motor, it requires less energy than alternatives such as steppers, synchronous motors, and other conventional electric motors. This helps increase energy efficiency.

Furthermore, this engine offers a superior level of communication thanks to the variety of fieldBUS available. That is: EtherCAT, CANopen, EthernetIP. Result: you can count on maximum openness and security.

Due to a sophisticated engineering solution, EWDB does not require downgrading both in terms of performance and power delivered to the engine, despite the integration of thrust and the housing on board the engine, which is typically a heat source. Finally, the integrated feedback ensures good speed precision and position control.
